Caterpillar to Exit On-Highway Engine Market

Caterpillar Inc., which lost its dominant position in on- highway heavy-duty diesel engines last year because of problems with 2007-compliant models, announced it will exit the North American Class 8 market by 2010, except for a severe-duty truck and engine in partnership with Navistar International.

Mack Revises EO-O Premium Plus Approved Oil List

Mack has revised its Approved EO-O Premium Plus Engine Oils List, again, having just done so May 21, 2008. This recent revision involves only a handful of changes compared to the one we reported two weeks ago, which added 42 approved engine oils. In this revision, one oil was added, three oils were removed, and a couple were replaced. The newly revised list contains 100 approved oils.

Cat and Navistar Form Global Truck Alliance

Caterpillar and Navistar International have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to pursue global on-highway truck business opportunities and cooperate on a variety of engine platforms. The two companies intend to focus on global truck opportunities, including North American severe service construction trucks, as well as technology development for engines worldwide. Caterpillar has determined independently that it will not supply EPA 2010 compliant engines to truck and other on-highway original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Chevron Transitions Commercial and Industrial Lubricant Products

Chevron Products Company has announced that beginning July 14, Chevron and Texaco Commercial and Industrial (C&I) lubricants will be marketed under the Chevron brand in the United States and Canada . This action will allow the company to leverage the strengths and market equity of the Chevron and Texaco sub brands by offering the strongest products from both lubricant lines under the Chevron name.
