Daimler and Volkswagen in Talks About Building VW Vans in U.S.   

August 23, 2005, DaimlerChrysler AG and Volkswagen AG are in talks about jointly producing a VW-branded minivan for the U.S. market, a German newspaper reported Tuesday. Financial daily Handelsblatt, citing company sources, said the automakers were in talks about the new project, and that an announcement was likely at next month's international auto show. The VW branded minivan would most likely be available to consumers by 2007. Neither VW nor DaimlerChrysler had immediate comment. For more details, click here VW Minivans


Johnson Controls to Buy York for $3.2 Billion   

August 24, 2005, Johnson Controls, Inc. and York International Corporation announced that Johnson Controls, a supplier of automotive systems and batteries, will acquire York, a global supplier of heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) equipment and services for $3.2 billion dollars.  For more detail, click here Johnson Controls to Buy York


Crown to Sell Global Plastic Closures Business for $750 Million    

August 18, 2005, Crown Holdings, Inc. announced that it has entered into an agreement to sell its Global Plastic Closures business to PAI partners, a leading European private equity firm, for an aggregate purchase price of approximately US $750 million. Crown's Global Plastic Closures business has 29 facilities located in 15 countries across Europe, the United States and Asia with approximately 3,500 employees. Giddings & Lewis to be Sold to NYC Firm

August 22, 2005, German manufacturer ThyssenKrupp AG is selling its metal-cutting machinery business, which includes Giddings & Lewis Inc. in Fond du Lac, to Maxcor Inc. for an undisclosed price. Giddings & Lewis will be sold to New York City-based Maxcor along with Fadal Engineering Co. Inc., a California machining company that Giddings & Lewis owned before Giddings was acquired by Thyssen AG. For more details, click here Giddings & Lewis
  

Mauser to Acquire Drum Maker Russell-Stanley
  

August 22, 2005, The Mauser Group announced that it entered into an agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of Russell-Stanley Holdings, Inc., based in Bridgewater, New Jersey. The agreement is expected to close in autumn, 2005. Russell-Stanley is North America’s largest manufacturer of plastic drums and second largest maker of steel drums. International Base Oil Price Report

Export base oil prices in the international market are experiencing additional increases from the previous (August 5, 2005) report with the larger increases being with the 150SN and the 500SN in the range of US$15-20/MT in all regions except Saudi Arabia.  Bright Stock prices, on the other hand, appear to be stabilizing, at least for now. As of August 18, 2005, the latest export base oil prices in the international market are as follows:
